Early Ritchey tandem

1985 Ritchey mountain bike tandem

Some pictures of a Tom Ritchey tandem from 1985. There is no serial number on it. We got it from Point Reyes Cycles, in Point Reyes, Ca. They had 4 of them in different colors. I would guess that he only made 4 of this type of bike.

It’s a double diamond design, it is unusual in having a very slack headtube, about 66 degrees. The handling is a bit odd as tandems go, but easy to get used to.

Bullmoose bars, roller cam brakes, 1 inch steel Tange headset, unicrown fork

Sugino aerotour crankset. Old deOre derailleurs with the reindeer on them.

The entire bike is fillet brazed. Lots of brass in this seat cluster, applied with great skill. Ritchey stoker stem.

Rear seat cluster.

The roller cam brakes with Magura levers do a great job stopping this bike.
